'Rima Das' - are the first two words I want to write before writing anything else. The amount of dedication, love, patient, skill she put to make a dream comes true in reel life, is unimaginable for most of the movie-makers of our country. Her unfathomable spirit made her run across the villages with dslr, casting as-yet-unknown faces, filming in uncontrollable environment. And at the end there was the diamond of movies - 'Village Rockstars'. Rima Das was the writer, editor, co-producer, production designer and cinematographer and director of next year's official Academy Awards nomination from India. It took Rima three and half years to plan the whole thing and shooting was done over a period of 130 days.

The film tells the story of a ten-year-old girl with dreams to form her own rock band in her village. The film already won many awards - the Best Feature Film ‘Swarna Kamal’ award at the 65th National Film Awards. 'Village Rockstars' also won awards in three other categories: Best Child Artist, Best Location Sound Recordist and Best Editing. Best Child Artist winner and the protagonist of the film Bhanita Das happens to be Rima’s cousin sister. This 87 minutes assamese pure art won every heart wherever it was premiered.

29 films – including blockbusters like Raazi, Padmaavat, Hichki, October, Love Sonia, Gulabjaam, Mahanati, Pihu, Kadvi Hawa, Bhogda, Revaa, Bioscopewala, Manto, 102 Not out, Padman, Bhayanakam, Ajji, Nude, Gali Guliiyan – were considered for the nomination. But I say 'Village Rockstars' can win over any of the above anyday. Sending it for Oscars is perfectly justified.
