Legendary Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci breathed his last today at the age of 77. From early 60s Bertolucci directed many famous films like 'La commare secca' (1962), 'Last Tango in Paris' (1972), 'La luna' (1979), 'The Last Emperor' (1987), 'Stealing Beauty' (1996) and many more. Bertolucci was born in Parma in 1941, the son of a poet and teacher, and was raised in a literary and artistic atmosphere. His directorial debut 'La commare secca' was a huge success and won hearts of film critics all over the world.

In 1988, at 60th Academy Awards, The Last Emperor won all nine Oscars for which it was nominated: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Music, Original Score and Best Sound.

In 2007, he received the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival for his life's work. His last film, 'Me and You' was screened at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. It was released early in 2013 in the UK. The film is an adaptation of Niccolò Ammaniti's young-adult's book 'Io e te' (You and Me).
