'Avengers: Endgame' Beats James Cameron's 'Avatar' To Become The Highest-Grossing Film Of All Time
Finally it happened. After long 10 years, we have a new title to claim the first place at last. 'Avengers: Endgame' has officially become the highest-grossing movie ever. However, thanks to the re-release around the July 4th weekend, the movie was re-opened in around 2000 theatres for the second time.
Disney and Marvel recently revealed the new global intake for Avengers: Endgame was $2.7892 billion in raw grosses, which is $500,000 more than the James Cameron's Avatar, which was released in 2009. The big factor in Avengers 4 passing Avatar at the global box office was its huge grosses in China. Avengers: Infinity War earned $679 million domestic, $359 million in China and $2.048 billion worldwide. Avengers: Endgame earned 26% more ($855 million) in North America and, sans China, around 29% more overseas compared to Infinity War.
When Joe and Anthony Russo were asked Friday at their AGBO Studios Comic-Con panel about Endgame ultimately conquering Avatar, the latter answered,
The fact that people have responded to Endgame this way and they’ve been following these characters for so long, it’s cathartic for us to see in that the storytelling has played out globally. James Cameron is an idol for us, and he’s fed our passion for filmmaking from the beginning.
