Three years ago Japanese electric hypercar startup Aspark debuted the concept of 'Owl'. Back then, they claimed 0-60 mph under 2 seconds. Many were sceptical of that lightning acceleration, but Aspark has proved doubters wrong.
Most of the time startup companies made big promises in the past but failed to deliver. Aspark is not on that list. They actually surpassed the expectations. During the summer, the Aspark Owl was tested at the Misano World Circuit, where it managed to hit 60 mph in just 1.72 seconds - which is way faster than the concept car. The car was fitted with road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The production version of the OWL was unveiled in November 2019 at the Dubai International Motor Show. Now the first examples are ready for customer delivery this fall. The OWL will be built by Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) in Italy and the firm has planned to have a production of only 50 vehicles. Aspark CEO Mr. Masanori Yoshida said,
It's a great honour for Aspark to be the first to announce this achievement, reached in a record time. When we first announced this project, no one believed it could have been done: it is true that we do not have a long history, but we are now completing what is the first Japanese Electric hypercar.
The hypercar is powered by four electric motors producing a combined 1,984 horsepower and 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque. Indoor testing shows that the OWL can accelerate from 0-97 km/h (60 mph) in 1.69 seconds, 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 1.9 seconds, 0-299 km/h (186 mph) in 10.6 seconds. The hypercar can attain a top speed of 400 km/h (249 mph). Powered by a 64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack Owl can run up to 451 km (280 mi). Mr. Yoshida continued,

The OWL has carbon fibre body work built around a carbon fibre monocoque chassis. The overall weight of the car is only 1,900 kg (4,189 lb). The car features a double-wishbone suspension system with hydraulic dampers and torque vectoring for improved handling. Stopping power is handled by a carbon-ceramic braking system featuring 10-piston callipers in the front and 4-piston callipers at the rear. It's also the lowest road legal electric hypercar, measuring only 38.9 inches high.
The package comes with a hefty price tag of $3.43 million. But if you consider the acceleration of this car, the price is way sweeter than many gas guzzlers out there. And one more thing is that right now 'Owl' is the unbeatable champion of any drag race on earth.
