Endgame collected around $2.2 billion in less than two weeks of its release. Previously highest box office collection was held by 'Avatar' and 'Titanic' - both are from famous James Cameron. Avatar is still holding the first place earning $2.78 billion in its lifetime. But 'Titanic' is defeated by Endgame last week and has to hand over the second position to Endgame. Titanic earned a total of $2.1 billion from the box office. Film analytics already speculated that 'Avatar' may have to lose its first position in the near future.
Accepting the defeat from MCU team, James Cameron has congratulated Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios on Avengers: Endgame about becoming the second highest-grossing film of all time. The director took to Twitter to offer his praise, complete with a photoshopped image of the Avengers logo sinking the doomed ocean liner. Cameron captioned the photo "An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took The Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever!"
Cameron, however, still holds the record for the biggest box office gross of all time, thanks to 2009’s sci-fi adventure Avatar. Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame is still steadily gaining ground for the top spot, so he might be sending out another tweet in the near future. However, Cameron could be back in the running when the first of his four Avatar sequels opens in theaters in 2021, though that all remains to be seen.
Endgame is the follow-up to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Sean Gunn, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, and Josh Brolin.
