The Land Rover was launched in 1970 by British Leyland. Since then the company is making full-sized luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV). After Tata bought JLR in 2008, it flourished once again with new-age technology. Now the company not only provides luxury, but it also provides ultimate safety. Range Rover Sentinel is the safest of them. The vehicle is made by Special Vehicle Operations - a division of Land Rover for providing military-grade technology in their vehicles.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi used to ride in his bulletproof BMW 7 Series 'High Security'. Previous Prime Ministers also rode in this car and this was the safest choice for a long time. But on the day of India's 71st independence celebration at Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in his brand new Sentinel. The change happened due to several good reasons.

#1. Impression

For the most powerful person of a nation like India, a sedan is totally underrated. PM Modi needed a bigger and better impression on his arrival. There was no better choice than a full-sized SUV for this purpose. Though BMW 7 series was big enough it was no match with Range Rover Sentinel. This huge car is 1983 mm wide, 4850 mm long and 1780 mm high.

#2. Reliability

This car is engineered by Special Vehicle Operations. They loaded it with all kind of modern luxury and safety. According to a statement released by Land Rover, the car carries over 2,204 pounds worth of armour and bulletproof glass. This makes it a very heavy car and can easily manage a few landmines without any trouble. As Mr Modi is not shy of reaching places, this car gives him the huge advantage of safety.

#3. Power

Land Rover says the 7,000-pound behemoth can still tackle deep water crossings and challenging terrain with ease. A four-wheel drive is the only option if you like to buy one. This enormous car is powered by 5.0-litre supercharged V-8 with 375 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. It can reach up to a top speed of 218km/h.

#4. Safety

Sentinel could withstand .30 calibre, armour-piercing incendiary bullets from weapons like the AK-47. Also, explosions of up to 33 pounds of TNT (and DM51 grenades) were also not enough to knock the Sentinel off its feet. This is also engineered to face modern and unconventional forms of attacks like bio-weapons. This car can run up to 30 miles even if the tire is pierced.

#5. Amenities

The car has the latest Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with two 10-inch touch screens. You also get more headroom than inside a normal Range Rover. Also, if you happen to be an elected official, you might find useful the specially configured front window which drops a maximum of 5.9 inches for document delivery. Sentinel also features a public address system allowing occupants to address people outside the vehicle.

#6. Brand Value

PM Modi is riding this car right now and the parent company is TATA. This car is also bought by members of the British royal family. All these powerful buyers will give Land Rover the desired testimonials. This can result in a conversion of the buyer from many other foreign brands like Ford and Toyota. At least diplomats can opt for this one rather than going with Mercedes or BMW.

Sentinel is a half-a-million-dollar car and the price is also justified. But if you are not a diplomat and still want to spend that kind of money you can always choose a Ferrari 812 Superfast.
