The old favourite Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) sees a spike in PC player numbers last month. The number of PC players grows around 245%. Back in May, the Epic Games Store held a massive free giveaway of GTA V to acquire more new players. And this is the result of that generosity. This also caused the Store website to go down temporarily due to high traffic.
The old game still continues to be one of the most successful games on a month-by-month basis. The game consistently ranks in the top 10 best-selling games. Even though the game was being given away for free, the revenue from the PC version still went up around 200%.
However, the PC version of GTA V consistently under-performs the console versions of the game. Despite a 245% increase in player numbers, the PC player numbers were still around 25% lower than the console versions.
Epic Games Store's GM Steve Allison said,
Since launching the Epic Video games Retailer, we have at all times wished to create an enormous occasion round our very profitable Free Video games weekly program to present one thing superior to gamers worldwide, and we determined to go huge. We invested in buying the rights to present 4 of the most important video games on the earth away free.
In the meanwhile Grand Theft Auto 6 is becoming more trending every day. There is speculation that all the cities from different versions of GTA will be inside the new game. If this happens GTA 6 could be the largest modern open-world game in the world.
