Face masks became an essential due to COVID19 pandemic and tech companies are keen to take advantage by offering us more sophisticated face masks. LG just introduced the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier.
It's a portable air purifier which looks like a face mask which promises to provide a fresh supply of clean air. The mask comes with two H13 HEPA filters and two fans, powered by a 820mAh rechargeable battery. On a single charge, the battery can provide eight hours of operation in low mode and two hours on high mode.
LG says one can wear the unit comfortably for hours, but there's no word on how much it weighs. When it does come time to recharge your face mask, the included case will also disinfect the mask somewhat with UV-LED lights. LG also linked the case to its ThinQ Android and iOS mobile app, so the user can be informed when the HEPA filters need replacing.
However, LG's press release doesn't make any claims at all that the mask can help stop the transmission of the coronavirus. LG's press release only says the mask will take in clean, filtered air. It doesn't say anything about filtering exhalations. The company is waiting for testing to be completed and certification granted before giving any further details.
We also don't yet know when the mask will be made available for purchase or how much it will cost, but LG has suggested it will be launched before the end of 2020. Till then just wear a normal, and cheaper ones to protect yourself from corona virus.
