Sony showed a glimpse of their latest PlayStation. It was a game announcement event but Sony took the opportunity to showcase the PS5. The console has a white and black design with blue accent lighting.
The PS5 stands vertically, like the Xbox Series X. But there will be stands for horizontal orientation too. There will be two versions: one with a 4K Blu-ray drive and a pure Digital Edition without an optical drive. The Digital Edition looks substantially thinner than the regular model. There are speculations that the Digital Edition will be priced $100 lesser.
Sony has also showcased several accessories for the PS5, including a DualSense charging station, a new HD camera, a Pulse 3D wireless headset, and a media remote. Sony has not yet announced pricing for any. They all follow the same colour theme as PS5.
The PS5 will also support more than 4,000 PlayStation 4 titles that exist today. They said,
We are expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions
Ubisoft has already said that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released on PlayStation 5 this holiday season. Epic Games also provided a stunning Unreal 5 tech demonstration running on the PS5, showing off the loading of cinematic 8K assets and dynamic lighting effects.
The one new detail here is that there will be a $5 to $10 drop-in PS4 game pricing, but that is to be expected in the transition to a new console generation.
