Nikola Tesla - when we hear this name what comes in your mind - an inventor, a futurist, master of Lighting, a genius and a scientist who never received his due credit. The Serbian-American inventor was born in the village of Smiljan of the Austrian Empire in 1856.

His father, Milutin Tesla was an Eastern Orthodox priest. Tesla's mother, Đuka Tesla had a talent for making home craft tools and mechanical appliances and the ability to memorize Serbian epic poems. Đuka had never received a formal education. Tesla credited his eidetic memory and creative abilities to his mother's genetics and influence. Today, on his 164th birth anniversary Let's take a look at all his innovations that changed the world.

1. Modern AC Transmission system

Nikola Tesla is considered to be the father of modern AC transmission system. Thomas Edison was always against AC citing human safety. To prove Edison wrong Tesla publicly put himself to 250000 volts and came out of it safely.

2. Induction Motors

Nikola Tesla first designed the concept of induction motor. The design is so perfect, even today all induction motors use the same design. It is considered as one of the top 10 inventions of all times.

3. Remote Control

Tesla demonstrated first remote controlled boat at Madison garden in 1898. It was the first demonstration of wireless remote control. It caused so much sensation that some started believing in Tesla's mind control power.

4. Wireless Transmission

In 1891 Tesla designed the famous Tesla coil which was capable of producing high voltage, low current, high frequency alternating current, which led the foundation of wireless communication. For years Marconi and Tesla fought patent war for radio communication. Some still believes Tesla should been credited with the patent of radio communication.

5. Hydroelectricity

Nikola Tesla had proposed the idea of harnessing the power of Niagara Falls. With George Westinghouse, Tesla developed the first hydroelectric power plant in Niagara falls. The power plant is still working powering a large section of American houses.

Lots of Tesla's futurist idea never became a reality because of financial issue. Some of these are,

1. Tesla Tower

A visionary idea to provide free electricity to the world.

2. Thought Camera

Tesla believed all of our thought create image in our brain. He believed it can be captured with suitable apparatus.

3. Death Ray

Tesla was reportedly working on a military project, which can shoot high velocity beam with accelerated particles, causing millions of soldiers drop to death with in seconds.

Nikola Tesla was a genius inventor, who was way ahead of his time. He can be best described by his own quote,

The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine.
