"The pen is mightier than the sword" said the English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839. However a pen can not fight a battle, neither a sword can write a poetry. So better to keep those in their justified place. As time goes, sword became just a collectible. Though pen is still in use but few are considered as an ultimate luxury item.

Today we will be focusing on only those luxury pens. These pens are used only on special occasions or they can sit on displays of pen collectors and luxury goods fans. Now take a look at these super costly pens which will blow your mind.

#1. Perrier-Jouët Anniversary Edition pen by Omas

This pen is a fruit of collaboration between Champagne maker Perrier and Omas. These are made from green resin to reflect the color of Champagne bottles. The Anniversary Edition pen features an 18-carat gold nib engraved with the bicentennial logo. An exclusive lot of 20 pink gold pens are available by special order. The original asking price of this pen is $134,700. Only 1,811 units of the Anniversary Edition pen were ever created.

#2. Limited Edition Boehme Papillion Pen by Mont Banc

Another limited edition, the Boehme Papillion Pen is available in white, yellow or rose-colored gold, and features more than 1,400 diamonds and sapphires. Butterflies grace the cap and body while the top features a distinctive Mont Blanc diamond. Each Papillion pen costs $230,410 and clearly made for a billionaire's hand.

#3. Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81 Pen

Only 81 individual units of the Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81 Pen were made. Each pen is crafted with 18-carat white gold and encrusted with 996 diamonds and 96 rubies, but the inner workings of the pen are still visible. Another 19 rubies attach to the clip ring, and the 18-carat gold nib also features two rubies. The original price was $256,010, but the current value is undoubtedly much higher.

#4. La Modernista Diamonds Caran d'Ache

Made by the famous jewelry maker Robert Perron, the pen is embellished with diamonds and rubies with a structure and nib of 18K gold. By the Swiss brand Caran d’Ache, this beautiful pen that would be a great present was listed as the Guinness World Record as most expensive pen back in 2001. You can have it for $265,000.

#5. Caran d'Ache Gothica Pen

Another offering from Caran d'Ache, the Gotica pen was first unveiled in China. The Gotica is crafted with six rhodium coated solid silver faces, each decorated with Gothic elements such as fleurs-de-lis and rosettes. 892 diamonds (weighing a total of 7.1 carats) cover the Gotica. If that’s not enough, the rosettes feature 72 rubies and 72 emeralds. The asking price of this pen is $406,453.

#6. Mystery Masterpiece Mont Blanc & Van Cleef & Arpels

Made to celebrate the centenary of two renowned brands, Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels this limited edition pen was the result of the collaboration of the brands. Three individual editions, each of them decorated with either rubies, sapphires or emeralds, These extravagant pens will set you back $730,000.

#7. Heaven Gold Pen by Anita Tan

Designed by a woman for women, the Heaven Gold Pen draws its inspiration from the changing alignment of the planets. Its design includes 161 brilliantly colored diamonds circling a 43-carat Tsavorite gemstone estimated to be more than 2 billion years old. The asking price for the Heaven Gold Pen is $995,510.

#8. Aurora Diamante Fountain Pen

This unique piece contains over 30 carats of diamonds on a solid platinum barrel. It features an 18K gold nib and can be personalized with a coat of arms, signature or portrait. This is the cheapest million dollar pen with a jaw-dropping price tag of $1,470,600.

#9. Mont Blanc Boehme Royal Pen

Another offering from the Boehme line from Montblanc, the Royal features an 18-carat gold, platinum plated retractable nib. The 18-carat white gold barrel and cap feature more than 1,430 diamonds. And that's not all: the Montblanc star logo consists of another 18 diamonds and 18-carat white gold rings. A paramount cut diamond highlights the clip. The $1,500,000 asking price places the Boehme Royal Pen among the most elite writing instruments.

#10. Fulgor Nocturnus by Tibaldi

Florentine pen maker Tibaldi specializes in proportion, design, and excellent technical execution. Based on the Divine Proportion of Phi, the ratio between the cap and the barrel equals exactly 1.618. And the components of the pen are just as luxurious: 945 black diamonds and 123 rubies stud the surface of this gorgeous writing implement. Tibaldi only made one, and it sold for $8 million at a charity auction in Shanghai.
